February 24, 2007 Dear Colleagues, We invite you to register for the Eleventh Annual New England Translators Association Conference and Exhibition, to be held on Saturday, May 5, 2007. This year we will be at a new location, the Best Western Royal Plaza at Royal Plaza Drive, Marlborough, Massachusetts 01752 http://www.rplazahotels.com or http://maps.google.com/maps Toll-Free (888) 543-9500 or (508)460-0700. The conference is an excellent opportunity to make contact with colleagues, potential clients and friends from New England and beyond. As always, the Conference also offers a complete educational program* as well as exhibitors of books and other items of interest. This year's presenters will include (partial list): -Jackie Noh, Keynote -Maria Louise Ascher, Theory of Translation -Martin Cross, Introduction to Patent Translation -Greg Figaro, Business Basics for the Independent Interpreter or Translator -Laurence Lollier, A Localization Workshop -Corinne McKay, How to Succeed as a Freelance Translator -Antje Ruppert and Leonor Figueroa, Subtitling and Scriptwriting -Mark Beckley, Deconstructing Computers and Networking (MAC/PC) We will also present a session entitled "Introduction to Clinical Trials" and an Interpreter Panel Discussion, "A Day in the Life of a Medical Interpreter," featuring: Inna Persits-Gimelberg, Institute for Linguistic and Cultural Skills, HPHC Foundation; Karen Hobrecker, MGH; Laura Rocha Nakazawa, Program Coordinator, Interpreter Services, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute; Loretta St. Louis, Ph.D., Director of Multilingual Interpreting, Cambridge Health Alliance. Included in the educational opportunities will be presentations for those new to the field as well as for more experienced translators and interpreters. We also have added more informal workshops and round-table discussion groups, both language-specific and general. To help assign the presentations to time slots and choose the workshop sessions, please complete the survey on http://www.netaweb.org/. With all events taking place in the same area of the hotel, there will be a relaxed pace and ample chances to meet and greet between sessions and during the lunch and closing reception. For lunch, the Royal Plaza Marlborough will provide sandwiches, cookies and beverages for purchase. There are also several places for lunch nearby; a list will be made available on http://www.netaweb.org/. The early-bird registration, including the evening reception**, is just $55 for NETA members ($60 for non-NETA members). April 15th is the deadline for early registration. Anyone, including NETA members, registering at the door will pay $70. Out-of-towners may reserve a hotel room at a discounted rate at the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel by April 28, 2006 at 508-460-0700. And it counts! Attendees to this Conference who are certified by the American Translators Association (ATA) are eligible to earn up to six (6) Continuing Education points (CEP’s). For those wishing to become certified, a sitting of the ATA Certification Exam has been scheduled for May 6th, the day after the conference. Note that you must register for the exam through the ATA.
